Luciano Correa (Violoncelo)

Luciano Correa was selected as composer by the 2015 NYU / ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop Foundation, Creative Musicians Retreat, Charlotte New Music Festival, Atlantic Music Festival and his music was performed by the Wet Ink Ensemble, Great Noise Ensemble and AMF Contemporary Ensemble.luciano
He was the first brazilian to perform in the New York Night of the Living Cello and the New Directions Cello Festival, where he performed concerts and workshops demonstrating the cello as rhythmic and harmonic instrument in Brazilian popular music in rhythms as Maracatú, Baião and Samba.
He also participated in Brazil in several international events such as Rio Folle Journé, Campos do Jordão International Music Festival, Biennial of Contemporary Music, International Culture Forum and the 13th Percpan and in 2010 he played in the Culture Award of the State of Rio de Janeiro, mixing the brazillian Funk Carioca with string orchestra and classical composers like Villa-Lobos and Xenakis with electronic music.
He is a member of the Brazilian National Symphonic Orchestra and was member of the Gama Filho University Camerata which performed in Brazil and Europe playing classical and popular Brazilian music.
He has played with many important artists of Brazilian music such as Jocy de Oliveira, Luis Carlos Cseko, Guinga, Bibi Ferreira, Danilo Caymmi, Elza Soares, Armando Lôbo, Thiago Amud, Tiê, Tulipa Ruiz, Os Cariocas, Wagner Tiso, Paulo Moura, Cristóvão Bastos, Teresa Cristina, Jamelão and Victor Biglione among others.
During his last tour in Europe the critic Eduardo Chagas from the website Jazz e Arredores, from Lisbon, Portugal, wrote: “Brazilian cellist Luciano Correa carefully crafted his sound to match the each contemporary composition played by the group. An excellent improviser, his playing was subtle, delicate and attentive to minute details of the general sound environment. Correa was able to harness the power of improvisation: knowing how to listen and respond to the musical dialog of the moment.”
